Non-Scale Victories Linkup March 21, 2013

button

It's Thursday and time for reflecting on the last week and all healthy things Non-Scale related!

My list this week is short - not because I had a bad week, but because I only did a few "new" things this week.

1)  Even though this can wait for next week's 5K challenge (and truth be told, I might mention it again...a few times...), I'm super excited so I have to report it anyway:  I wogged for 4mins straight on the treadmill on Monday and THEN on Tuesday, I wogged for almost a FULL 1/2 mile outside on the soccer field!!

2)  On Monday, I also drove through sleet, icy roads, and numerous accidents to get to the gym - what's that old post office creed??  Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night...okay, maybe not gloom of night - I'm a huge chicken.

3)  This week I also attempted to eat fruit with every meal or tried to eat at least 3 fruits a day.  It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  I'm going to try to continue this.

4)  I'm one of those people who just doesn't think about drinking water...I actually don't think about drinking anything (except my beloved latte in the morning - Sweet Joseph, how I love thee...), so it takes effort to drink enough of anything, let alone water.  I've gotten so much better over the last year and a half, and I always drink at least eight 8oz glasses, but this week I tried to up my water to 12 and even some days I got up to 14.  When I first started my journey, I set a calendar reminder to pop up at work to tell me to drink water...I can't tell you how much that helped!  I've also been blessed with the tiniest bladder known to man, so all this water has me running to the bathroom at least twice an hour.  Extra steps during the day!  I actually have to stop drinking water by 2:30pm & use the restroom right before I walk out the door, just to be able to make it home without breaking out in the pee sweats...you know what I'm talking  about...when you have to go so bad, you start sweating?  Yah, that's me.  The great thing about trying to get enough water is that I rarely have any type of drink that isn't water, again except for my latte...have I mentioned how much I heart that latte?  I swear to you that sometimes I kiss my cup.

Be sure to tell me what your NSV's were this week!  Remember, it's not all about the scale.

  1. Those are some great NSV! especially the running 4 minutes straight and 1/2 mile, those are big accomplishments!! I drink so much water and seriously love it, my problem is I drink it too late in the evening and end up having to pee once or twice in the middle of the night...that is a pain

    1. Thank you so much, Ashlee!! The fruit is hard to do but I try to plan ahead. With the gym, it helped that the reason I needed to get there was for Zumba, I love it!

  3. Way to go! Those are some awesome NSV's!

Did you ever imagine that you would run for 4 minutes in a situation that was not life or death?!? Not I! (Not that I have run for 4 minutes or anything)

I started drinking more water this year too. I am the only one in my family that has not had a terrible cold. I am convinced that the water increase is the reason!

Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what next week brings for you!

    1. HAHA, Amy! You crack me up! NO, I honestly never imagined that I would be able to run a 100ft let alone for 4 minutes - maybe I need to remember the real reason I am training is so that I CAN run from a killer if ever need be - that should get me moving a little quicker, lol! Thanks so much for popping over!!

  4. Fruit is the hardest for me! I always have to add something to it. I just recently started weight watchers and I've lost 12 pounds, I'm trying to keep going:)I'm always looking for motivation! Glad I found your blog!

  5. YAY! You did great this week! I did my 4 miles on Sunday and ran/shuffled "most" of it. I was shocked. Of course, so was my body and I've been walking the rest of the week until today when I actually got out of bed and went to the gym before work. I did intervals on the treadmill. You should try it. You set a slow speed and a top speed and it goes in intervals every 30 seconds--slow/medium/top speed. It will help you gain endurance. I usually do it for 15 minutes. It's like 5 or 6 times for 30 secs at the highest speed. I set my low speed at 3.0 so I get 30 secs of walk between the 3 levels of jog and run.
I go fill up my 24 oz water bottle every hour and make a pit stop at the same time. You've got lots of success today!!

  6. Great NSVs! You definitely have a lot on that list to be proud of! Jogging for 4 minutes is amazing, thanks for sharing! Also, I was never a big water drinker either, but now I need so much of it during the day it seems. A lot of times when I think I'm hungry if I drink a glass and make myself wait 10-15 minutes the craving of whatever I wanted usually passes.

  7. A lot of success to celebrate. congrats! I'm with you on no.4. I don't really drink water until I feel really thirsty. I still try to improve on this part. I have only one serious workout this week, my thigh is pretty painful as a result of squat workout. Only one workout, but still a good reason celebrate, right. I try to make this a routine.
